As ready as I am for warmer weather, I know I'm going to miss cozying up in oversize knit sweaters like this one. One of my secret weapons for going out at night while still feeling like I'm wrapped in a blanket (always my goal) is this adorable cami. This little number is TWELVE DOLLARS! Full disclosure: it's cut a bit low so be prepared to don some type of sticky bra if you don't want your bra to show through the lace. The great thing about this top is that it can be worn on its own, but looks equally cute beneath a big 'ol sweater too! It also comes in black, which I may or may not have in my cart right now :).
Is it winter? Is it spring? I HAVE NO IDEA! This weather we're having in NYC is crazy, and while I'm totally loving these random warm days, I'm convinced winter hasn't quite left us. As much as I long for warm weather, I know in 4 months I'll be wishing for this perfect sweater weather again! Jeans and a white t-shirt will NEVER go out of style, and by adding a slouchy sweater, fun shoes, and a few delicate necklace, poof! you have yourself an entire outfit. I love this go-to base because it's foolproof and you can add any color sweater or scarf on top to mix it up, or just a fun statement necklace when the weather gets warmer.
Also, my necklaces are no longer available on BaubleBar because I got them when they were on mega sale over the holidays. I highly suggest subscribing to their emails because they oftentimes have "buried baubles" which are deeply discounted pieces like the choker I'm wearing that I scored for $10!
I may have just posted about this sweater last week but that's because I'm a huge fan of it and clearly it's very versatile! If there are a few colors that you love wearing (can you tell I love blue??) don't be afraid to go tone-on-tone with your outfit. We all know you can't go wrong with all black, but all white, especially in different shades, can be even more striking-if you're brave enough! I also have to mention that while I got this coat at a bloomingdales outlet store, it's currently on sale on Groupon for the next week for under $60! I love the little bit of drama that the wrap gives it, plus you can use the belt to give yourself some shape, which can be challenging when you're all bundled up!
I've worn this leather jacket COUNTLESS times, and have absolutely gotten my money's worth. If you've been thinking about investing in a leather jacket, you should 100% do it because you can wear it year-round! As much as I love this little jacket, sometimes I feel like it needs a refresh, which is where the faux fur vest comes in. I just layered this vest over a denim jacket a few weeks ago, and it works just as well over my leather jacket. I love this look because it almost looks as if I got a whole new jacket because of the tone on tone look, but this "new jacket" didn't cost me a dime :)!
To be honest, basically this entire outfit is from Europe and the amazing store I got the trousers and sweater from does not ship to the US, YET...however, the good news is, this color combo of mustard, navy, and grey can be easily recreated :). I actually got my inspiration for this outfit just by picking out these two pieces while shopping on my honeymoon this summer. Trust me, it was odd to be buying heavy trousers and a sweater in the middle of August, but they were on sale and well worth it! I've said it before and I'll say it again, buy off-season if you're trying to save your pennies like me! I don't recommend buying trendy pieces or anything that you can't easily work into your existing wardrobe, but, if you find pieces you know you'll wear for months or years to come, then go for it!
Also, this particular sweater was not available in my size, but I loved it so much and I'm a huge fan of oversized sweaters, so I bought it about 2 sizes too big, and I think I love the slouchy fit even more than I would have loved my normal size. My point is, be open minded, but also know what YOU like and what you feel comfortable and confident in :). Here's hoping promod starts shipping to the US soon!
Coat: UNIQLO (color sold out, but coat is on sale!) / Golden Tote-old (cute option) / Scarf: Old Navy-old (similar) / Headband: H&M (color sold out online) / Jeans: ASOS (also in plus size) / Boots: Aerosoles (on major sale!)
When it comes to winter coats, I typically wear my big black puffer coat (which is on sale for under $100 right now!), but sometimes I like to throw a little color into my life :). That's where this amazing little jacket from UNIQLO comes in. As its namesake states, this jacket is ultra light and can actually be folded up to the size of a small handbag which makes it ideal for travel. However, when the temperatures drop way below freezing (like they have been in NYC lately), I feel like I need one more layer, and I discovered that my puffy vests are the perfect answer! I've spoken about my love for puffy vests before, and I just keep on lovin' them all winter long. Not only do they provide an extra layer of warmth, but once you take your outer coat off, you basically have a whole other outfit, but haven't sacrificed all the warmth :).
One of my other favorite finds this winter has been what my husband lovingly calls my "ski bunny" headband. He may not understand the allure, but this baby has become my best friend. I wear my hair in a bun almost everyday for work and this headband keeps my ears toasty without messing up my bun. It's also ideal for those days when you're finally having a good hair day and don't want to ruin it with a beanie. Headbands for the win!
Sweater: H&M-sold out online (love this one) / Pants: H&M-old (similar) / Shoes: Clarks / Vest: Target (exact in beige) (similar in black) / Jacket: J.Crew Factory (on major sale!) / Beanie: Old Navy-sold out (similar)
I have about a million different textures happening in this outfit and that's precisely why I love it :). If you aren't a huge fan of mixing patterns, or you aren't quite sure how, mixing different textures is another way to keep your outfit visually interesting. Even though it's getting pretty cold here, I refuse to give up my sneakers (unless there's snow on the ground of course). For a little bit of fun, and of course warmth, add some cute socks with your sneakers! J.Crew Factory has tons of adorable options that are way more exciting than standard black or white.
The LBD is something every woman should have in her closet for a reason-it can work for almost any occasion! This turtleneck sweater dress is hands down the warmest dress I own, and it can be worn all fall and winter long. I got mine last year, and it's been a staple ever since. It can be worn with riding boots, booties, flats, and heels. Toss on a faux fur vest or a fun bomber jacket and you have even more outfit possibilities. Not into accessories? With an oversized turtleneck, this dress can be just the right amount of statement all on its own :).
Spending $25 on a scarf is a bit of a splurge for me, but man is this scarf worth it. Wearing this scarf is like being wrapped up in a warm hug! I know there are TONS of options out there when it comes to blanket scarves, so if you're overwhelmed by all the options, make sure to go for one that has colors in it you find yourself wearing a lot, or that will pop against neutrals like black and white, if you're more of a neutral person. I've been wearing way more pinks and purples than I usually do, so this scarf was a no-brainer. This one comes in several other colors as well, so there should be one that suits your style. If you're wearing a scarf that makes a statement with either its print or its size, just make sure the rest of your outfit is on the simpler side so the scarf can shine :).
Jacket: Golden Tote-old (similar) / Sweater: Old Navy-old (this season's version) / Turtleneck: Old Navy (color sold out) / Jeans: ASOS (also avail in plus sizes) / Boots: Naturalizer / Necklace: Bauble Bar-old (fun option) / Sunnies: LOFT-old (similar)
In my continued effort to avoid my winter coat; I'm trying to find as many creative ways as possible to stay warm. Faux fur bomber jackets are a wonderful option, because they are surprisingly warm, and also just plain fun. Forever 21 has some super fun options right now, and they're all really affordable.
I'm also a big fan of turtlenecks! I remember my mom wearing them a lot growing up, especially amazing holiday-print ones around Christmas time; so maybe I was just born to love them :). The one I'm wearing from Old Navy is pretty thin, so it's wonderful for layering. It's also that perfect mix of not being too tight, but also not looking sloppy. J Crew Factory is also always a great option for turtlenecks in an array of colors, and some are on sale for as low as $14.50 right now! Have fun mixing up your winter pieces to keep winter dressing fun!
